10.   What is keeping you from believing in Jesus?

Summary: The rest of the chapter deals with the testimony of John the Baptist who is the prophesied forerunner and the friend of the Bridegroom (Jesus).  As the last prophet to identify the Messiah, John testifies that Jesus is the Christ and that “He must increase, but I must decrease,” which is the response of all who come to know Him as the Son of God.

Jesus’ favorite designation for Himself, however, is Son of Man (used more than 80 times in Scripture) and was based on Dan. 7:13-14 emphasizing (1) His lowliness and humility, (2) His suffering and death, and (3) His future reign as King.  The title Son of God is used to refer to Him mostly by others (demons, Satan, enemies, His followers after His death and resurrection).

Jesus is both the Son of God and Son of Man. Jesus has to become man in order to die for man; Jesus as God resurrects from the dead.  He is the God-Man, wholly God, perfect man, united in one person forever.  As the God-Man, Jesus reverses the curse upon mankind.
